Products in Advertising - Super Bowl
The Super Bowl is often a time for advertisers to show an influx of their ads. Many of them fulfill a purpose of appeasing to a general audience or an assumed audience. Here's a couple.
The NFL had done a commercial themselves during the Super Bowl, they tried appeasing to a broad audience, particularly to female audiences with the irony of male football stars doing dances that wouldn't be associated with them. The dance used, was from Dirty Dancing, an old film, which would only be known by other demographics, but the way the ad is portrayed would show it is designed to appease those current generation of people.
M&M markets their candy brand by using absurd humor of Danny Devito asking random strangers if they want to eat him. The commercial is certainly is geared towards younger audiences, and uses quite a famous person for their advertisement.
Doritos and Mtn Dew also advertise their product with celebrities, using 4. 2 were of rappers from the early 90s having their own respectives songs being used with actors Peter Dinkeledge and Morgan Freeman lip syncing them. The raps themselves would appease to teenagers and older adults who might have a "blast from the past".
There was also the occurrence when Alexa was being sold as the product. There was a use of multiple celebrities. Gordon Ramsey, Anthony Hopkins, Fat Amy, all acting as an inferior version of Alexa at least in the way people tended to use her for what they want. The multiple different kinds of people of all ages and races also showed what audience the Alexa was meant for, which is practically all audiences and people.
The Olympics acted as a product to show simply it will be on the NBC. They use the story of an Olympian herself to try and captivate and gain the interest of anyone who want to watch the Olympics, to try and create the potential for a connection for these kinds of people. It does appease with woman by having a woman experience in the ads many experiences some woman may feel emotional towards.
